OUR GIRLS MUST FLOW IN DIGNITY AND CONFIDENCE -- VERONICA OBEMAH

Madam Veronica Obemah, Girls Education Officer for Asokwa municipal Assembly, GES and Founder of Edufua Empowerment Foundation has called on the need to educate, support and empower women and Girls with the resources needed to manage their periods in dignity and confidence.

She said this at this year’s International Menstrual Hygiene Day Celebration held yesterday may 29, at Aprabo MA JHS, Kumasi – Ghana. The Celebration themed “Together for a period friendly world” was organized by the Asokwa Municipal Assembly of the Ghana Education Service in partnership with Edufua Empowerment foundation.

The colorful celebration saw the schooling of pupils on reusable pads and its benefits. They were exposed to some important hygiene practices and the need to pay attention to their menstrual lives. Practical displays such as how to fix, remove and hygienically dispose a sanitary pad were experienced.

Madam Veronica Obemah told the media that the purpose of the day among others was to break taboos and create awareness that menstruation is normal and should be stigma-free. She said the exercise would propel the safe and healthy development of the young girls and prepare them for a better future.

The Edufua Empowerment Founder highlighted the need for affordable access to sanitary pads stating the difficulties some less privileged school girls face when menstruating in School. According to her, Edufua Empowerment Foundation is committed to partnering with relevant stakeholders to provide the necessary resources ensuring that girls do not face barriers to education during their periods.

“Let us break the taboos, advocate for better policies and create a supportive environment where we can openly discuss menstrual health. Together, we can make a significant impact and ensure that menstrual hygiene is prioritized for all”        She Said.

Madam Veronica Obemah called for support for her foundation’s ‘Sanitary Pad Bank’ initiative which was launched at last year’s world menstrual Hygiene day which focuses on improving accessibility to sanitary pads especially for vulnerable girls. She called on benevolent organizations and individuals to contribute voluntarily to make a significant difference in the lives of many vulnerable young girls.

“Many of our girls are from vulnerable homes and can’t afford much, including sanitary pads. I humbly call on philanthropists, benevolent agencies and individuals to donate to the Pad Bank so we can support the girls who are not able to afford sanitary pads due to genuine reasons”. She added
